Chapter 6

Despite the confidence she displayed in front of Daphne and Mana, she knew it wouldn’t be easy.

She had no idea of how far the kidnappers had taken Melita, didn’t know in which state the catgirl was, or even if she could use her new weapon. It could take her days or even weeks to find the monsters, and in her hurry, she had forgotten to grab any supplies. She only noticed ten minutes after she left and then felt too embarrassed to turn back. The memory of Daphne’s tears persisted in her mind, and they gave her the strength to continue as she was.

Granted, she could have prepared herself better, found some armor or at least some sturdier clothes. She looked good, but the clothes Daphne had given her wouldn’t do much against weapons. The spear she was holding seemed to become warmer, and the metal changed. The amazon almost panicked when the metal shifted over her flesh, covering it, and for a moment she wondered if she would die like that, buried under her own weapon.

Then she noticed how the metal was molding itself to her flesh, almost as if the weapon knew what she wanted, that she needed protection.

She could only chuckle when it finished, looking down at her body. A thin mesh of metal covered every inch of her flesh, both protecting her and allowing her to move just as freely as before. Only her head remained unprotected, and the moment she thought that, the metal spread and covered it, forming around her eyes, allowing her to see and to breathe from small holes it formed around her nose and mouth. It bothered her a little, but it would allow her to fight.

With a thought, her head was bare of protection once more, and she laughed. “That’s amazing.” A warm sensation came from her weapon, as if proud. “You’re amazing.”

Maybe she was being crazy by talking to a weapon like that, but well, it was a magical weapon. She didn’t know what it could, or could not do, and so better to be cautious.

“I don’t suppose you can do anything to speed up our voyage, can you?” She said it in jest, but it seemed the weapon didn’t take it like that.

A tendril shot out from the center of the armor, more or less where Lysandra’s stomach was, and it hooked onto a tree in the distance, maybe a hundred feet away from her. She gulped when she realized what was going to happen and then screamed when the weapon pulled and she flew forward. That tendril hardened just before she could crash against the tree, and she jolted to a stop.

It didn’t hurt as much as she thought it would, and the ride had been quite exhilarating. A small grin took hold of her lips. “Think you might be able to do that again?”

It could.

Lysandra’s heart beat quickly inside her chest as her new weapon projected her around as if she was some kind of stick that one threw at a dog.
